Porto
Porto, Portugal's second-largest city, is a vibrant cultural hub known for its historic charm and world-famous port wine. Situated along the Douro River, Porto captivates visitors with its mix of medieval architecture, colorful riverside buildings, and stunning bridges like the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge. The city's UNESCO-listed Ribeira district is a maze of narrow streets, lively squares, and traditional restaurants serving delicious local cuisine. With its rich history, buzzing arts scene, and wine cellars offering tastings of the region's renowned wines, Porto is a must-visit destination that perfectly blends tradition and modernity.
A Bela Aurora
Paula and Massimo welcomed me with coffee and cookies. I actually only wanted to drop off my bag and head to brunch with friends. But I was a bit too early for that and enjoyed instead my coffee and cookies with a chat with Paula and Massimo. I enjoyed listening to their story – where they come from, what they have done, seen and experienced. Paula is originally from Porto but has been living in many other places in Portugal and in other countries. She’s a fashion and lifestyle photographer and has worked for several national and international magazines as Elle and Case da Abitare. Massimo is a Milanese and former well-known RAI radio producer and currently a music radio producer and broadcaster.
Duas Portas
After a few inspiring but also busy days in city center, I was in need of some me-time in a quiet place. Luckily, I had booked two nights at Duas Portas in Foz do Douro. The location is just amazing! You have the sea just in front of the door but at the same time you’re just 15 min away from city center by bus or elétrico (tram). The életrico number 1 stops just in front of the guesthouse and I specially recommend a drive when the sun is slowly going down – so beautiful!
Rosa et al Townhouse
Last time we visited Porto, we stayed at ROSA ET AL Townhouse for one night. We had some expectations of course and they were all exceed. It is located in Rua do Rosário – in the most trendy artsy neighborhood of Porto, surrounded by art galleries, artist's studios and concept stores. ROSA ET AL Townhouse is made by travelers, for travelers.
Malmerendas Boutique Lodging
I love contrasts. Specially when they complement each other. And that's why I love Malmerendas, a boutique lodging in the up-and-coming downtown neighborhood Mercado do Bolhão. The combination of traditional Portuguese textiles with sleek Scandinavian-style furnishings are just my taste. Can I please move in?
Torel Palace Porto
Our one week trip from Serra da Estrela to Douro and back to Porto ended perfectly with a stay at the five star hotel Torel Palace Porto. The elegant palace in the heart of Porto was carefully renovated and opened its doors in February 2020. The Palace used to be a historic townhouse – Palacete Campos Navarro - and will take you back in time. The building still spreads a romantic charm but also plays with modern interior pieces.
Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments
Go on a sailor's adventure with Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments. Torel 1884 Suites & Apartments takes you back to the time of Portuguese discoveries with all the exotic things, such as fabrics, materials, spices and animals that the explorers came across and brought back from their journeys to faraway lands.
Armazém Luxury Housing
We came across Armazém Luxury Housing because I love Yoga. If you want to keep up with your practice while in Porto and you love the Bohème Industrial Design then this is the place to stay at. The cold and bold concrete mixed with soft textiles and warm lights give this place a very special charm.
Casa do Conto & Tipografia
I remember my first visit in Porto in 2012. I was traveling by myself hoping to find peace and inspiration. I booked a room at Casa do Conto because I saw that they had great reviews from Swiss architects.
I fell in love with Casa do Conto at first sight. Everything is in balance: modern architecture mixed up with Portuguese vintage pieces and handcraft. Even the books and magazines they had were my favorite. I simply couldn't believe that I had found such a gem. It is truly an unique gem in Porto city.
