Azores
The Azores, an enchanting archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, is a part of Portugal renowned for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, lush greenery, and unspoiled natural beauty. Comprising nine islands, the Azores offer a paradise for nature lovers with stunning crater lakes, hot springs, and rugged coastlines. Each island has its own unique charm, from São Miguel's vibrant geothermal activity to Pico's towering mountain, the highest in Portugal. The region is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, whale watching, and diving. With its tranquil atmosphere and breathtaking scenery, the Azores are a true hidden gem of Portugal.
Faial
We stayed in Faial for three nights. But actually we were only two days on the island and spent one day hiking the mountain Pico. More about the hike here. Faial is a small island which you can drive through in one day. But once again, the weather can be a challenge and it’s relaxing to know that you have some spare time. In addition to that, we like to explore a place in different ways, specially by foot. And if there’s a beach, well, than we definitely want to enjoy a bit of that too.
São Miguel
Welcome to São Miguel, the biggest and more diverse island of the Azores. So it's no wonder that most of the visitors simply stay on this island and leave out the others. Therefore, you'll find more tourists on São Miguel than on the other islands. After spending a week in Faial, Pico, Flores and Corvo, it was a big crowded for us. But when we met other travelers, they all said that São Miguel is not touristic at all. And it's true of course if we compare it to other destinations in Europe in summer.
Flores
We‘re back from a magical place, some even call it heaven on earth. It‘s a gem still hidden in the middle of the Atlantic ocean – the Portuguese islands Azores. After two amazing weeks we‘re back with a heart full of love for nature and its beauty. We started our adventure in Azores on the island Faial but as some of our friends and readers wished, we‘d like to present you first the island Flores.
Flores is our favorite island. We‘ve stayed for four nights. Some people might think it‘s too much, because the island is very small, but for us it was perfect! The weather is unpredictable and no app or forecast can give you real meteorological guidance. We still think that we were very lucky. We had lots of sunshine and made it to see all the amazing nature highlights. But maybe it‘s also because we were not stressed about time. We tried to visit the Caldeiras two times and couldn't see a thing (too foggy). And then on one afternoon, suddenly the sun came out and we had the most beautiful afternoon on the island. We visited the Caldeiras and did a stunning coast hike.
Atlantic Brine
For those of you who also love to go on culinary discoveries, we recommend to take a look at Atlantic Brine. They organize nature tours, food workshops and experiences on the island Pico.
Pink House
In the beautiful island São Miguel in Azores a new guesthouse caught our attention – the Pink House. We fell in love with the pink facade nestling between the green nature of Azores. Pink House is a project by Mezzo Atelier and the architect in charge was Joana Oliveira who owns the place with her parents. The old stable from the beginning of the 20th century was converted into two guesthouses where history and contemporaneity coexist in balance.
WHITE Exclusive Suits & Villas
Today, we'd like to share with you another place we stayed at when in São Miguel – WHITE Exclusive Suits & Villas. São Miguel is the biggest island of Azores. More about the island here. We booked this place because of its infinity pool and amazing sea view. We wanted to have a break from all the hiking and driving around by the ocean. And therefore, we enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing stay. The interior is perfect for everyone who‘s into minimalist white boho style and the staff is very friendly. We loved the breakfast diversity and you can have it outside with sea view!
Azul Singular
You probably have noticed that we love nature and design. When we travel (not only in Portugal) we try to combine those two as much as possible. Azul Singular promises to be the perfect mix. The hybrid tents were embedded in a breathtaking tropical scenery – we can't stop staring at the pictures with all those tones of green! The vegetation has remained untouched for approximately 30 years and its characteristic are the different types of palm trees among wild fern, flowers and bushes. You will wake up to the sound of birds and the many windows in every tent bring nature right into your cozy indoor. Wood and textiles bring in a warm atmosphere.
